Important Safety Notice

Pool chemicals can be dangerous if mishandled. MyPoolGuy provides recommendations based on standard industry chemistry formulas, but cannot account for all variables in your specific pool environment. Always exercise caution when handling pool chemicals.

Always Consult a Professional

For the following situations, consult a licensed pool professional:

Complex water chemistry issues that persist after treatment
Structural pool problems (cracks, leaks, equipment failure)
Equipment malfunctions (pumps, filters, heaters, salt cells)
Any situation you are unsure about

Chemical Safety

Always wear appropriate protective equipment (gloves, eyewear) when handling pool chemicals
Never mix chemicals — combining different chemicals can cause dangerous reactions
Add chemicals to water, never water to chemicals
Store chemicals in a cool, dry place away from children and pets
Follow all manufacturer instructions and safety data sheets (SDS)

Split Dosing Warning

When large amounts of chemicals are recommended, MyPoolGuy automatically splits doses to ensure safe application:

Never add more than 2 lbs of dry chemical or 1 gallon of liquid chemical at a time
Wait the recommended time between doses before adding more
Run your pump during and after all chemical additions

Drain Warnings

When CYA (cyanuric acid), calcium hardness, or TDS (total dissolved solids) levels are extremely high, the only solution is a partial drain and refill. MyPoolGuy will alert you when this is necessary.

Draining a pool improperly can cause structural damage — including the pool shell lifting out of the ground. Always consult a professional before draining.

Water Appearance Treatments

Green water, cloudy water, pink slime, and black algae treatments may require multiple rounds of treatment. If conditions do not improve after following treatment plans, contact a pool professional for an in-person assessment.
